At first, it was just meant to be revenge.
Nothing more.
A way to get back at Iris for the humiliation, for the embarrassment she had thrown at me like I was nothing.
Of all people she could have cheated on me with, why did it have to be someone so close?
Why did it have to be someone I trusted?
That was what cut the deepest.
That was what burned.
Because even when whispers reached me, even when I was given clear insight into her betrayal, I had still trusted her.
I had asked her.
I had asked her countless times, my patience stretching thin, my love for her outweighing my doubts.
And every time, she had denied it.
Every time, she had looked me in the eye and lied.
And then, when we were meant to be getting married, when we were supposed to be standing in front of our people, pledging our lives to each other…
She humiliated me.
