Chapter 18. Tying Up Loose Ends
“It’s so good to hear from you again, Emilia. How are you?”
“Annoyed most times, but I’m fine. What about you?”
“I miss you,” he blurted out. “I know I shouldn’t say that but it’s true. I miss you a lot.”
Crap! Maybe this phone call was a mistake.
“I shouldn’t have called you, Matt,” she said softly.
“Please, don’t say that. I didn’t mean to offend you. I know you and Kane are married again, I was just saying…”
“It’s fine. I’m not offended. I just don’t want you to think that I was trying to get back with you again. I just felt like talking to someone who isn’t heavily invested in my current situation.”
“I understand. I wasn’t expecting to leave your husband for me either. I know that’s impossible.”
She chuckled. “I still love him but I’m so angry with him. I’d probably punch him in the face if he showed up in front of me right now.”
“Maybe you should. He deserves it.”
