Prologue: Supremacy Has Ended

“The Chosen One, the child of the most powerful vampire, will end the vampire’s reign with cursed ink.”

Disgruntled wolf howls and vampire hisses echoed across the dark forest as a strong wind made the tree leaves dance. At the same time, the moon above was too round, glistening with stars.

Gossip and theories from the seers about the Chosen One went throughout the empire and vampires’ lair, but no one could predict what the future may hold. At that time, the great Lucas and Arleth’s fondness and strong determination had a positive impact on ending Evander’s dominance.

“I declare my victory against the Council of Elites! I ended the reign of Evander!” yelled Lucas, the leader of the Unity League. “No one shall harm vampires, werewolves, and humans as we strive for unity, not war!”

Unity League members gathered around Lucas, blood stains visible on their shirts and bodies from the bloody fight.

“Rogue vampires were all bound to die! Our goal was to end them all before they rule the world!” added Lucas, glaring at each one of their members.

It was known that the Unity League was the last chance for the three races—humans, vampires, and werewolves—to be saved before the Council of Elites took over the world. Though ambitious, dissipating global malevolence was simple for the scoundrel vampires. However, their motives lingered as a dream, for now, as Lucas and the Unity League members wouldn’t let it happen, and Evander’s legacy had ended. Not unless someone continued the stupid legacy of their so-called great vampire warrior, Evander.

Looking back from the past, Lucas was part of the vampire royal clan known as the Johnsons, who faced life with worries and many challenges for him to solve, and mysteries were yet to be unraveled.

“Lucas, listen,” Augustus, his father, said beside him. “You were not a pure vampire like me.”

It astonished Lucas; his eyebrows rose, and his heart beat faster than usual. He gazed at his father’s ocean blue eyes that twinkled, about to say something, yet he could not open his mouth as those words still shocked him.

“Well, your mother is a human, while I am a vampire. Because of my great affection and determination to have her, we have you, my only son,” clarified Augustus with a smile plastered on his lips, then thumped Lucas’s shoulder.

As Lucas comprehended his father’s words, he came up with an idea and said, “So it means I am a hybrid, and I cannot be an heir to the throne?”

Augustus chuckled and faced the window while the moon was seen above. Afterward, he turned his gaze back on Lucas and exhaled.

“Although you were not pure, I would still bless you with the kingdom. The decision was on me, not on the elders.”

The Johnson leaders from the past were all great pure vampires, like Augustus, his father. If the heirs were not pure, he had the right to decline and find someone pure to rule the Johnsons. However, Augustus managed to appoint his son despite being a hybrid, which was thought to encounter additional problems in the future. But who knows, would a hybrid be more robust than pure vampires? No one could predict it.

Years flew by faster than flipping a new book page, and Lucas reached for a new chapter of his life. A new month to celebrate as he was now paired to marry a beautiful heir from the pack in the country of Vulcan’s most extensive pack. He couldn’t deny he was thrilled to see her and almost felt they were destined to be together.

Arleth was considered the Chosen One of their pack, with some incredible ability that no other had—burning vampires just by touching them, which was highly treatable to vampires if the pack was considered one of their enemies.

Lucas’s eyes widened to see the stunning lady who entered the dining hall as Johnson invited the werewolf pack leader of Vulcan, with the heir, to join them in getting to know Arleth even deeper. As soon as Arleth sat on Lucas’s side, electricity trekked on his body for an instant. He was affected by Arleth’s presence and fell in love with her beauty.

He wasn’t wrong from what he had heard from Johnson’s members. That Arleth’s beauty would apprehend anyone’s scrutiny, including him. He sat on a wooden coffee chair and was not comfortable. Every time he tilted his head and glimpsed her, Arleth always caught his eye.

“Hey, Lucas,” said Arleth to break the awkwardness between them. “Are you alright?”

“I am,” retorted Lucas, cleared his throat, and gave her an awkward smile.

Afterward, Lucas faced in front and saw two great leaders, his father, and Arleth’s father. As they started a conversation about the wedding, Lucas desired and thought of marrying a woman like her, although she was a werewolf. In their kingdom, it would only be plausible to be married to anyone as long as the current leader would give consent.

“We all gathered here to settle everything. To have united peace and stability in our partnership, we have decided to let my son marry Arleth,” stated Augustus in a loud voice, which made everyone who gossiped around the table stop.

“That’s why I am here, because of that. My daughter wasn’t against marrying your son as long as we gave them time to get to know each other and formed love between them,” added Arleth’s father, who had sat beside Augustus.

“Of course! It will not be good to marry someone whom you don’t love. Better give them at least five months before asking about marriage again.”

That was all it started. Arleth and Lucas had been exploring the forest, human civilization, and even werewolves and vampire packs to know what they felt for each other. However, as time passed and five months arrived, they were all aware of their feelings for each other. It couldn’t be denied that five months were enough, and the leaders agreed to the marriage.

Though both were initially doubtful, in the end, they chose to be wed on the new moon the following month. However, after they married, they struggled to face each other. It was to defeat Evander and end his reign. With their courage and determination, it was achieved. However, after the said battle, it was a decision both Lucas and Arleth made.

“You know how dangerous it would be if you left the league, Lucas and Arleth,” worried the Head Guardian Rendall of the Unity League. “It doesn’t mean you can easily roam around without worries. Remember, not all rogue vampires died. Only Evander’s supremacy ended, not his members, elders, and heir.”

It made Lucas exhale and think about what Rendall had told him. Despite his doubts, he looked at Onitsha, who went silent on his side. Before he could reply, Arleth had already opened her mouth.

“We have decided already to live with the mortals on Malus, Cortland, away from here,” responded Arleth.

That made the Head Guardian more saddened by the decision and warned her, “Okay, I will understand the decision and respect it as well. However, by the time you leave here, you will not be a werewolf.”

“What?” asked Arleth.

“Yep. That’s what will happen to you.”

Still, the two proceeded with the decision and lived with the mortals on Malus, Cortland.

As a hybrid and a werewolf heir couple arrived at the town, they withheld using powers and proficiency to be more human. They rented a house to settle in, then diversified to their prevailing situation. They didn’t mind what people might think about them, but they somewhat comprehended some neighbors who accepted them wholeheartedly.

Time moved quickly. Lucas found a job and started teaching physical education at the public high school in their community.

“Raise your hands for a bit, Anne! Just like what I did last time, I showed you all the execution,” said Lucas, and he demonstrated the dance steps he wanted them to follow.

“But, sir, it is a bit hard to execute,” replied the student, and she rose from her seat.

Lucas stopped the execution and scratched his head. “It was already the simplest that I gave you all. Mastering it will make it feel easier.”

Sometimes, it was hard for Lucas to teach physical education. For them to survive in the human race, he needed to do such and forget who the real him was.

On the other hand, Arleth worked as a veterinary assistant in the town proper. Even though she was busy in her field sometimes, she still had time for Lucas and her daughter, Clover, who was still younger.

“Can you fetch Clover first? I will be working overtime,” said Arleth on the phone while she gaped at the dog lying on the hospital bed as her patient. “We will have an operation right now.”

“Alright, no worries,” retorted Lucas on the other line.

“Okay, love you.” Arleth ended the call and again faced the dog, barely breathing.

‘Damn. I hope that dog will not die…’

Little did they know that Elijah, the son of Evander and the current leader of the Council of the Elites, had ordered his forces to find Lucas and his family and destroy their happy lives.

“I want to end Arleth’s bloodline! We should find them and kill them as soon as possible!” shouted Elijah while he was on a mini-stage in front of their mansion.

His men formed a line and were trained as he was scared that the Johnsons would fulfill the prophecy and end their reign, which he couldn’t accept.

“We should not let them survive!” Elijah added.

That time, his spy had told him the area they were staying at. At night, they scampered silently and assaulted Lucas and Arleth in their home. They started a seizure and successfully killed Lucas and Arleth while their bodies were left unconscious on the ground. They were aware they would be attacked but weren’t prepared. The Council of Elites was that strong and hard to defeat.

“Where’s the child? Shit!” cursed Elijah’s men and peeked at every corner of the house, but no child was seen. “Find that damn child! I know she is just around! Don’t let her escape!”

However, it was too late for them as Clover, the only daughter of Lucas and Arleth, was sent to a secret camp in Braeburn before they attacked.

Within a minute, other members arrived and reported that they could no longer find the child.

“That child has the bloodline of the Johnson and Arleth, and we should find and kill her before Elijah knows she is still alive…”
