Chapter 14. The Perils of the Assessment
Aldrich’s POV
It was two days before the Heir Assessment began, and we kept our distance from Lillian as she requested, though it hurt. She was right; we needed to set aside our feelings and our longing for our mate.
Arsenio had become gentler and hardly visited the clubhouse after spending exhausting days at the pack house.
We wanted to get to know her better, but she wasn’t giving us that chance.
When we felt the bond at the funeral, we were both happy and sad.
Lillian was still mourning the death of her father. This wasn’t the time for romance, or for telling her she was our potential mate when she was already burdened with being the princess.
“Our duty to protect her comes first,” I told Arsenio, who was leaning against the kitchen wall.
