“I need to know, Dad,” I said, wanting to make sure I was absolutely certain of what I was hearing. “Are you seriously considering going back to that harpy?”

“Yes,” Rufus replied directly. “I don’t know how many times I have to repeat myself about this.”

“But you can’t!” I cried. “Why can’t you get it into your head that this is Freya’s life you’re messing with?”

“Why can’t you get it into your head that if I don’t help Freya, then she is dead anyway. She will kill herself from the inside out,” I could tell the pure emotion in my Father’s voice. I know he wanted to save Freya as quickly as possible. “If you have any other suggestions, then I’m open to hearing them.”

I released a defeated exhale. I know I didn’t have the answer, and I had no idea where to start with this. I just knew that magic isn’t something to be messed with or taken so lightly, especially with a witch we couldn’t trust for a second.
