The speedboat’s engine roared beneath us, vibrating through my bones as we cut through the dark water.

My fingers dug into the wet fabric of my dress, desperately trying to anchor myself to something solid.

I couldn’t look at the water not now, not after what just happened.

The full weight of everything crashed down on me all at once, like the shock was finally wearing off.

A wave of nausea hit me so hard I nearly doubled over.

Part seasickness, part horror, all overwhelming.

I swallowed back the burning bile rising in my throat and tried to focus on anything but the rocking motion beneath us.
