Chapter 12. Dinner Gone Wrong
“You’re scary,” Olive muttered and bit her lower lip. Wayne’s heart stopped beating as he stared at her lips. She pouted, and he shifted uncomfortably in his seat.
“Whatever you do, let me live. Please,” she pleaded.
“You will. Don’t worry,” he replied dryly. She nodded nervously and looked down at her plate. She needed to eat; she was starving. So, she ate as much as she could. It was a silent meal, with her not even looking up at him once. That, however, gave him plenty of opportunity to stare at her face. He just couldn’t help it. She was calling out to him, and he wanted to answer. He wanted to hug her tight and just rest in her arms. But she was too scared of him, and he wasn’t helping matters. He was trying to show that he was cold toward her, that he didn’t really care. But he didn’t know how much longer he could last with that façade.
He finished his meal
