“That was so sweet,” Vanessa drawled with a pout. “This is a human being, you guys,” she stated, glaring at the rest of the men.

“You’re wrong. He’s not human,” Shem retorted, glaring right back at her. Before Vanessa could retaliate, Wayne cleared his throat.

“Would you like me to tell you my first impression of her?” he asked Dolly without looking at Olive, who was actually looking up at him.

“Yes, please. I was going to ask you anyway,” she replied. He looked down at Olive, his jaw clenched and a muscle ticking slightly.

“When I first saw you, I felt something I had never felt before. I felt like my world had come crashing down. Usually, I feel angry and have the urge to take revenge when something that belongs to me is destroyed. But when I first saw you... I... I felt like I had lost everything. Like I was desolate, hopeless.
