Chapter 68. We’re Complete
Months passed. All repetitive, all equally grueling. There were times when his voice woke Sarah from her sleep, only for her to turn and realize that the spot next to her was empty. Other times, she would pass out without warning, her health refusing to improve no matter what they tried.
At the doctor’s suggestion, she was brought to sleep in the same room where he lay comatose. They said it was therapy. They said it would make her better. It didn’t. Instead, it became her most cruel experience.
Every day felt like a chore. Half the time, she sat on the brink of insanity, barely hanging on by a thin thread. The one thing that kept her going, the one thing that gave her a sense of peace amidst this darkness… was their child. It was the only piece of Damon left.
A family. It felt unreal, but exciting… like something out of a storybook. She thought the moment he woke up, they would finally be complete… that he was going to pull through like he always did and come back
