Chapter 22
To the Rescue
“There you are. I thought I lost you for good!” He exclaims after he rushes over to me and takes me into his arms.
Staring up angrily into his eyes, I ask sarcastically, “How did you think I would get home without you? What? Spread my wings and fly back?” Before I wriggle free of his arms.
With a hurt look in his eyes, he asks, “Do you realize that she wouldn’t leave me alone?” Swallowing hard, he continues in a matter-of-fact tone, “I kept shoving her hands away, but she wouldn’t stop. Some women just refuse to get the point.”
“I bet if you really wanted to, you could have easily kept her at bay. At least, you could have just stood up and removed yourself from the situation. Even told me about it so she would stop. Instead, you sat there pretending that everything was fine.” I say so softly that it is almost a whisper.
