Chapter 44

"You must eat, Gabby," Mel remarked with such concern and worry in her voice.
Since Caleb is still missing, I simply gave her a hollow expression and shook my head; I neither have the appetite nor the desire to eat.
It has been seven days since I last spoke with Jayden about our son, and I have not heard from him since that day.
I considered the possibility that Jayden had already rescued Caleb and, true to his threat, decided to take Caleb away from me.
I feel like I'm losing my mind from worrying about my son; if I had to choose, I'd rather Jayden take Caleb away from me than for him to be in danger; at least then I'd have peace of mind that he's safe.
I was roused from my daze when I felt Mel's hand on my shoulder, and when I looked at her, I forced a smile to show her that I was still hanging on, but the smile instantly turned to sorrow, and a few seconds later tears started to run from my eyes.
