Chapter 25. Empathized
“You,” Rachel whispered, clutching her chest. “What are you doing?”
Edmund didn’t hear her clearly. The rain drowned out her voice. But from her reaction, he realized his presence had startled her.
“Sorry,” he said, walking closer. “I didn’t mean to scare you. I couldn’t sleep because I was hungry.”
“Didn’t you check the dining table? I left some food there,” Rachel said irritably.
Instead of looking guilty, Edmund kept a neutral expression.
“That’s the problem. Your cooking is too good. I wanted more, but I didn’t know where to find it. Is there anything left?”
Rachel rolled her eyes and took a short breath.
“In the refrigerator. Green box at the bottom.”
“Thank you.”
