Chapter 66. Deep Talk

Alice fell silent, blinking as she processed Edmund’s words.

“Do you mean we’re like an elderly couple?” she concluded.

Edmund’s laugh nearly echoed through the room.

Out of everything he said, that was what she took from it.

“Isn’t our situation similar?” he replied. “We’re husband and wife, but we can’t even do that properly.”

Alice froze, speechless.

Edmund, meanwhile, opened his suitcase and took out some clothes.

“If you’ll excuse me, I need to take a shower, my wife.”

After he left, Alice let out a long, disbelieving sigh.

“I’m like an eighty-year-old grandmother?”

She looked down at herself, almost as if checking whether that was true.<
