Chapter 3
Eternity’s POV
I feel dizzy while feeling my rushing adrenaline.
I got a job at The Knight Industries as a Designer in the Marketing and Advertising Department. I got an email from the company about my job acceptance. They are one of the best and biggest industries in the whole USA.
It’s mostly impossible to get a job there. I heard they hire the best of the best.
Well, I have always been good at my studies from my childhood with great grades, but there are some dark memories as well.
I shake my head. I don’t want to think about it now.
I have been searching since this morning in my wardrobe for what to wear. Normally, I don’t put so much effort into my clothing, but I have to give a good impression on my first day of work. It is, after all, The Knight Industries.
Finally, after thinking and searching for so long, I found the perfect clothes. I put on a white blouse, a black fitted pencil skirt, and white heels. I apply only lip balm to my lips. I put mascara on my eyes, and the rest of my face I leave natural. It doesn’t need makeup.
After that, Olivia came to my place.
“Ready, Eter?” I hear her voice while I am applying moisturizer over my face.
“Yes,” I say while coming out of my room, keeping important documents I need with me.
When Olivia sees me, her head tilts slightly to the side.
“Eter, you look so beautiful,” she says to me as her lips part.
“Thank you, fan,” I say to her and wink playfully.
“You know, if I was a boy, then I could have married you right here,” she nudges me playfully, and I give her a flying kiss while keeping my documents in my purse.
“OK, let’s go. I don’t want you to be late on the first day of work,” she says.
“Yeah,” I say while sitting in the passenger seat of her car.
Finally, after a half-hour, we arrived at The Knight Industries. I gasp while seeing the biggest and most stunning skyscraper I have ever seen, with the sign ‘The Knight Industries’ written over it. This name and skyscraper appear to be quite elegant.
I see guards standing outside the building, securing it like soldiers protecting the palace.
“Bye, Eter, all the best on your first day,” Olivia says to me, giving me a hug.
“Thank you,” I say to her while closing my eyes and taking a calming breath.
“Wait, Eter, I have something for you here,” Olivia says, giving me a packed cup of Oreo shakes.
“Wow, Oli, thank you so much. I need this, girl. You know me very well,” I say while sagging against the side of her car with a slow smile.
“I’ve known you since childhood, and whenever you’re stressed, you feel better after drinking an Oreo shake. Remember childhood memories?” she says, smiling.
“Yeah, childhood days are the best,” I say.
“OK, Eter, go. Otherwise, you will get late,” she says, squeezing my hand.
“Yeah,” I say while getting out of the car.
When I go toward the entrance, the guard asks me for my ID and a letter. I show him a letter I got through the company email. Then he gives me a curt nod to go inside.
“Thank you,” I say to him with a little smile.
When I walk into the building, my heartbeat increases as my mouth feels so dry, staring at its elegance and grace. It is so amazing and beautiful with a stunning interior. My trance was broken when someone accidentally bumped into me.
I rub my legs several times on the carpet before entering this amazing skyscraper. I shake my head. Still, my mind is trying to calm itself.
“Hey,” I say to the receptionist. She is blonde with a beautiful face, and she is wearing a blue pencil skirt and a white blouse.
“Yes?” She looks at me with a cheerful smile. Seeing her smile, my mood starts to lighten up.
“I am new here. I just got a job,” I say to her.
“Name?” she asks.
“Eternity Granger,” I say to her.
She types what seems like my name on the keyboard of the laptop. After some seconds, she meets my gaze.
“Report to Assistant Editor, 27th floor. Report to Elena Cary. She is the head of the department,” she says to me while pointing toward the lift.
“Thank you,” I say to her with a tingling warmth in my limbs.
When I come to the elevator, there is a huge crowd among it. I stand among the men in business suits and nicely dressed blonde girls.
My gaze is drawn to another elevator, which appeared luxurious having a platinum border around it; however, it appeared abandoned.
I go toward it.
What if I take this? I think, giggling and about to enter it.
“It’s for private use, ma’am, only the boss can use it,” the guard says to me, giving me an apologetically wry smile.
I nod. I can feel my skin picking up my behavior earlier. Why do I have to poke my nose everywhere?
I am about to go down to the public elevator when my leg hits something hard, and I am ready to fall to the floor. I quickly close my eyes. I feel goosebumps over my hands. With an accelerated breathing rate, I feel my body muscles getting tense.
But nothing happens until I feel an arm around my waist, and I feel my body tense with the touch of the person who is holding me by the waist.
Slowly, I open my eyes. I see those stunning crystal blue eyes again.
Wait, he is that man who saved me yesterday from a freaking accident, but he was rude as hell toward me!
I look at his hand, but he is dressed in a suit, so it is hidden.
Glancing up, I see his side profile: Aaron Knight! Owner of The Knight Industries.
Bye, world! Please wear bright colors at my funeral.
Is that Aaron Knight? Oh my God, that’s why I’ve had a feeling I’ve seen him somewhere in top magazines and newspapers. Why that day I couldn’t recognize him then? Maybe because my mind was fully focused on the accident at that time.
“You again,” he says to me with rigid stiffness in his muscles. I can feel his hands tight around my waist with his eyes darkening.
Why is he always pissed off at me?
He quickly jerks his hands off of my waist. I balance myself, standing up straight.
Without even a single glance, he goes toward his private elevator with a man and a group of guards trailing behind him as loyal tails.
“Seems like someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed,” I mutter to myself.
I can feel my weight shifting side by side. I go toward another elevator while people are already there.
Finally, when I arrive at the 27th floor, I go toward the office of the head of the department. When I reach the office, I knock on her door.
“Ma’am, this is Eternity Granger,” I say.
“Oh, yes, honey, please come in,” she says with a very cheerful voice.
“Thank you,” I say to her. She invites me to sit.
“Your grades are very impressive. Your certificates in art design are also very impressive. Even your points in an interview at our company are very nice. So, I hope you won’t disappoint me,” she says to me softly.
“No, ma’am, I will try to give my best to you,” I say to her, and she chuckles.
Mrs. Cary calls out, “Nancy!”
After that, a girl whom I can see named Nancy comes to the cabin.
“Yes, ma’am?” she says, smiling at Mrs. Cary.
“Please show Miss Granger her desk.”
“Yes, ma’am, of course,” she says to her, smiling at me.
Before I go, Mrs. Cary says to me, “I hope you will enjoy working for Knight.”
I nod to her. “Of course, ma’am.”
Nancy comes out of her office.
“Here is your desk. Please make yourself comfortable,” she says to me, smiling widely.
“Thank you,” I tell her.
“What is your name?” she asks me.
“I am Eternity,” I say.
“Wow, Eternity, such a lovely name. My name is Nancy Martin, and here is your report for which you must work,” she says, handing me a file.
After getting a brief description of my work from her, I sat down at my desk after completing my file. I sigh.
And thinking about Aaron, I can’t believe he saved me that day, but he is always so cold and pissed off with me. I don’t know why. Is his hand still hurting him? I didn’t even say thank you to him. He never talked straight with me.
