Apphia’s POV

“Come in,” I clear my throat and sit straight. The door opens, and Maximus walks in, looking every bit of an alpha he is. He smiles at me. I get to my feet to shake his hand. Instead, he kisses my cheek kindly and looks at me at arm’s length.

“Apphia, you look well... Really well,” he bristles.
