Chapter 39
Zoey's POV
Black dots danced across my vision as my ribs dug into my lungs.
Maybe I really would die today. Because of a fight.
Because of those damn eyes that distracted me.
I felt numb. Voices came to my ears from everywhere, but I didn't want to hear them. Sleep was the only thing clouding my mind. Quiet. My body felt weak. I could no longer feel my entire upper body.
The voices became clearer. A steady beeping sound always drowned them out. It was a man who spoke. I knew that voice.
"I miss you. I'm so sorry." A kiss was placed on my forehead, then something wet ran down my head. When I tried to wipe it away, my body didn't obey me. I had to lie there listless, blind, and more dead than alive.
My eyelids felt heavy like someone had attached the lead to them. Little by little the weight decreased. As the voice talked to me and I was unable to understand the words, I regained control of my body. And with that, the pain cam
