Chapter 94
Zoey's POV
Deaf. Moving mouths and light slaps on my cheek to get me out of my bubble of pain and helplessness, nothing brought me back to reality. Slowly but surely I could see nothing but blurred colors, hear nothing but the rush of my blood in my head, and feel nothing but a hint of pain that still drifted neglectfully through my body.
Then I was gone. Away from the villa that I temporarily called home, away from all the strangers. A light gust of wind swept over my hair, giving me a tiny feeling of lightness. When I looked down, I saw my bare toes disappear into muddy earth with green corn stalks sticking out as far as the eye could see.
I carefully raised my hand and felt the rough leaves of a small bush. Such lightness surrounded me that the thought was deeply embedded in me that this moment was timeless. I could spend forever here, among all the bushes that I had never even seen in my dreary life.
