My eyes snapped open, hearing a creak of a foot on my stairs. I was not in the mood to deal with intruders.

“Whoever you are, you picked the wrong day to mess with me,” I growled, getting to my feet.

A scent wafted in the air, freezing me in place. The scent of her with all her chocolate and cinnamon. I was a fool to not grab her last night.

Eyes narrowing I bolted for the door, my speed faster than any human could blink. But as I threw the door open, the intruder stood there, waiting for me.

“You,” I snarled, fists clenching at my sides.

“Ah, that explains a lot,” he admitted with a nod. “Unfortunately for you, she’s already got a master, and you’re not it.”

Neither of us had to mention who we were talking about. I hadn’t been thorough enough in my investigation. I skimmed through others, only caring about her. Or maybe I would have picked up on the fact that her boss was one of my kind.
