Chapter 9

Sonja

I couldn’t bring myself to turn around. My heart hammered hard as my palms grew sweaty. Sergio continued the light touch behind me.

“Pet,” he whispered, voice husky.

I couldn’t stop myself. I turned and met his eyes. There was something in his eyes, different from the usual Sergio. A bareness of lust clouding his gaze as he stared beyond me at what I’d opened. His tongue caressed his upper lip, and I was mesmerized by its path. Not for the first time I wondered what it would be like to feel his lips on mine.

No! Snap out of it!

“I—” I started as my eyes darted to the side. I had to come up with a reason I was here. I had to! What was he going to do to me? What was all that? It was still dark so I couldn’t even get a good look inside.

“Sonja,” Sergio shook his head and reached past me. His arm brushed my cheek and everything inside of me froze. I trembled, waiting for the blow. But instead a click sounded by my ear and light bathed
