My heart stopped beating in my chest as she swayed in Siv’s arms and collapsed. My brother’s rough handling made my lips curl as fire swirled through me, threatening to take over.

“Careful,” I sneered.

Siv raised a brow at me. “Cai? What’s wrong? You don’t look so good.” He hesitated before his eyes narrowed and he glanced around.

I smelled it at the same time. The aroma of the hunter coming for his prey. “Get her out of here,” I demanded, turning to address the threat.

“Kate?” the question was a snarl, the promise of pain and suffering.

No matter, I wouldn’t let him near my mate. Siv had already listened to me and taken off with her. It was just me and the other vampire.

“No,” Sergio shook his head, stalking from the shadows. “You’re not ‘Kate’ at all. You tried to trick me.”
