Setting the phone down in its cradle I stared at it, convinced it would turn into something else in my hands. I hadn’t spoken to my best friend in such a long time, and now she was so close! Sergio wanted me to stay put, I got that, but how could I possibly listen when I could see my bestie again?

Glancing at the clock I worked my lip with my teeth, the tender flesh still not healed from before.

The park she’d talked about was close, or at least I think it was close. I could have sworn I saw something like that in our mad dash on his motorcycle. In any case, I was going to get outside and investigate. It was still late, Sergio had been gone for a couple hours at least by this point. Maybe he’d come home while I was slipping out, and maybe he wouldn’t. In any case, after what we’d done, I doubted he’d be too harsh with me.

I shivered thinking about it. What had come over me? And even more, why was I willing to do it again?

It wasn’t like I
