As Bennett and I arrived home, we were taken aback by the sight of a pregnant lady standing by Eric’s gate. Initially, we were too stunned to speak, remaining silent until Lucas drove closer and closer.

The pregnant lady, noticing the car, began walking down the path. “Hi, I’m Maria.” she said. “I’m looking for Eric, that’s his house over there.” Her eyes were scanning the surroundings as if searching for something or someone. I exchanged uneasy glances with Bennett, unsure of what to expect of her visit.

“Why haven’t you called him yet?” I asked, trying to sound unperturbed. “He might not have returned from work, or maybe he’s on a night shift,” I suggested, attempting to offer a logical explanation.

The pregnant lady’s expression remained worried, and she replied, “He hasn’t been taking my calls. I wonder if you can help me get to him. I really have to talk to him.”
