Chapter 23

Sylvester’s POV

As the days passed, Blaze, Luna, and the rest of the pack helped me regain my sanity. I had mixed emotions about what had happened to Sandy and Dylan. On the one hand, I was angry with Jackson for not being able to protect her. On the other hand, I was still reeling from the loss of Sandy and the guilt I felt for not being able to protect her.

I found myself getting angrier and angrier at Jackson. How could he have let Sandy and Dylan get captured? Why didn’t he protect them better? We almost got into a physical fight when I confronted him about it.

“I did everything I could, Sylvester!” Jackson said. “I tried to protect them, but I couldn’t be everywhere at once. And besides, we were outnumbered. Three against one.

“But they trusted you!” I yelled back. “They looked up to you as a mentor and a protector. And you let them down.”

Jackson hung his head. “I know,” he said quietly. “I’m sorry.”
