Elizabeth's POV

“Girl, I’m really sorry to hear all this,” my friend Jessica said. I couldn’t keep all this information to myself not when it was choking me from the inside. I needed to talk to someone, and Jessica was the only one I could think of. I trusted her. She always listened, always understood.

“I wish I was with you there in America. I would give you a big hug right now,” she added, her voice softening.

“I was already annoyed with them before all this happened,” I began, pacing around the room. Every step felt heavy, like the weight of the entire world had landed on my shoulders. “Now they tell me this. I was adopted, Jess. And I have a freaking twin sister. She looks exactly like me. My other half, separated from me since childhood. And no one told me.”

“Listen,” Jessica said, and I could feel her trying to be cautious with her words. “I mean… I’m not trying to take sides, but I would have done the same thing if I had a kid.”
