Chapter 62
Calix met Valerian’s cold gaze head-on. “Adrian Blackwood violated
my
sister,” he stated firmly with his voice. “And I want to make him pay for it.”
Valerian raised a brow at his impudence. His fingers, which had been lazily drumming against the desk, suddenly stopped.
Slowly, he leaned forward as his silver-grey eyes darkened. “Your
sister?” he repeated.
Calix didn’t hesitate to answer once more like he was stating an obvious thing. “Yes, Noelle.”
The silence that followed was deafening.
It took a few good seconds before he spoke again.
“Now
that
is funny.” His tone was sour as every syllable cut like a blade. “Because,
Levi McGrath,” he spat the name like it disgusted him, “I don’t recall Noelle having a brother when she was
crying out in my arms.”
The air between them suddenly turned suffocating as the weight of Valerian’s words pressed down heavily on him, cutting out his guilt.
