“No, ma’am. They’re biological sisters.” He paused, then dropped the next bomb. “And you know Vivian, Helene’s cousin, right?”

My eyes widened even more, fresh dread spiking through me. What the fuck else is he about to hit me with? My voice came out low and shaky. “Yes…”

“Okay. So Samantha is Helene’s aunt. Ever since your dad threw Elaine and Helene out, they’ve been crashing at Samantha’s apartment. And apparently, Vivian’s biological mother… is Samantha.”

The phone slipped from my numb fingers and hit the ground with a loud clatter. My whole body went cold, then hot, like ice water flooding my veins before boiling over. My chest squeezed tight, breath coming in short, ragged bursts. The amusement park spun around me—laughing kids, bright colors, everything blurring as nausea rolled through my stomach again. This couldn’t be real. It was too fucking much.

Lincoln moved fast, snatching my phone off the ground while Zoey grabbed my han
