Everything slowed down.

Elaine came at me like a demon straight out of hell—eyes bloodshot and wild with pure murder, face twisted in ugly rage, teeth bared. She was already too close. Way too fucking close.

My body locked up. Numb. Heavy. Like my brain had disconnected from my limbs. I couldn’t move. Couldn’t scream. Could only watch as she raised the knife higher, panting hard, chest heaving like a rabid animal.

“You bitch!” she snarled, spit flying from her mouth.

Lincoln and Zoey’s voices ripped through the air at the same time.
