Chapter 27. Stayed Overnight with Her

It was around 3 a.m. now, and I was still sitting in my office.

The city lights glittered far below the huge windows, but I wasn’t looking at them. I was just sitting at my desk, doing absolutely nothing, laptop on, tie long gone, feeling restless and bored out of my mind. I hadn’t slept. I didn’t even feel tired, just off..

On any normal day, I would’ve left the building by 6 p.m., long before the last employee. I never stayed this late unless there was urgent work. Yet here I was, still chained to this place for no good reason.

Ever since I’d forced Freya to stay overnight and finish that presentation before 5 a.m., this strange restlessness had settled in my chest and refused to leave. I couldn’t bring myself to go home knowing she was still here, working alone on the floor below.

I didn’t understand myself.

Yesterday I had overreacted badly. Seeing her hug Markus had lit something ugly and possessive inside me, and I’d made su
