Chapter 71. Charge Her for Attempted Murder

Freya POV

My head banged hard, a sharp, ringing pain exploding behind my eyes. For a second, the whole room tilted violently. My breath caught in my throat, trapped, as if someone had punched me straight in the chest. My heart stuttered, then slammed against my ribs so violently I thought it might crack them open.

I slowly glanced up at Helene, my voice barely a whisper, trembling and broken.

“Wait… what do you mean?” My lips felt numb. “Like… are you trying to say… you… you did that to my grandma?”

Helene threw her head back and laughed, a light, delighted, almost playful sound that made my stomach twist violently.

“Yes,” she said, still smiling sweetly, as if she were talking about the weather. “I did that. Don’t you remember the last time you came home? I told you all your close ones would suffer for what you did to me. So yes… I poisoned your precious grandma.”

My brain first sparked, then short-circuited.
