Chapter 19. Confused

As he spoke those words, I could see the sincerity in his eyes. I knew that he meant every word and that he would do anything to make it happen.

However, getting out of the mafia isn’t as easy as Riccardo made it seem. The Don never let anyone leave life without consequences, and we had seen how violent and ruthless they could be.

One day, Riccardo received a call from an unknown number. He answered it hesitantly, but as soon as he heard the voice on the other end, his expression turned grave.

“What’s wrong?” I asked when he hung up.

“It’s the Don,” he replied quietly. “We have to meet him at a secret location tonight.”

My heart sank in my chest. This was it; the moment we had been dreading all along. We knew that if Riccardo tried to leave, he would have to face severe consequences.

As we arrived at the meeting point, I couldn’t help but tremble with fear. The Don was standing there with his arms crossed over his chest, staring at us menacingly.<
