Chapter 278

Carla's POV 

"Are you okay?" he asked, his eyes filled with worry.

"I'm fine, just tired," I replied, my voice betraying none of the turmoil inside me. I forced a smile and nodded.

"You've been through so much, Carla. I promise you, it's over now. We can finally move on with our lives." Carter embraced me, holding me tight. 

Little did he know that moving on would be the hardest part. The guilt of what I had done would haunt me forever, a constant reminder of the darkness that had consumed me. But for now, I would keep my secret buried deep within, a silent pact between me and the shadows.

Carla and Carter sat on the couch in his apartment, a heavy silence hanging in the air. I couldn't bring myself to look him in the eyes, knowing the truth that lay hidden within me.
