Carter's POV 

I rushed to her side, finding her huddled in a corner, her eyes filled with fear. I take a deep breath, trying to steady my voice.

"Carla, we need to leave. Pack your things. We have to go," I tell her firmly.

"Where are we going? What about my school?" She looks at me, her eyes questioning. 

"Carla, I understand your concerns, but your safety is paramount. We can't risk staying here. We'll figure out the rest later. Right now, we need to get you out of harm's way," I explain urgently.

Tears stream down Carla's face as she nods, accepting the gravity of the situation. She quickly gathers a few belongings, the only remnants of her previous life, and stuffs them into a bag. I hold her tightly, promising to protect her as we face this uncertain journey together.
