Chapter 13

I lay back in the hospital bed, my head in a tangle of thoughts, thinking about the phone call I had just made with my boyfriend, and then thinking about Xavier’s hesitation to say anything.

Before I fell asleep, I heard the sound of his footsteps leaving, and I was relieved to fall asleep completely.

In the dream, I dreamed about how I met my boyfriend, Lyle.

I met him when I was 18 years old. He was still a rogue at that time.

On the day I graduated from high school, I was kidnapped on my way back from a party.

It was during that kidnapping that Lyle saved me and came into my life.

My kidnapper was the leader of the rogue, who kidnapped me to get back at my father. In order to scare my father, they tried to cut off my little finger and send it to him.

I fell into a coma from panic and woke up again on the back of a man who was carrying me on his back to escape.
