Chapter 20

Once everyone else had finally left, Ethan quickly locked the door behind them. He lowered his voice, sounding dead serious. “Mara, what’s going on?”

Mara threw herself into his arms, shaking uncontrollably.

Tears welled up in her voice as she stammered, “Ethan… she… Faye’s really back. She’s come looking for us… She bullied me so much when she was alive, and now even after death she won’t let me go… sob…”

Ethan froze, then immediately pulled her into a tighter hug, gently patting her on the back.

“Mara, talk to me. Tell me everything, okay?” he said softly, trying to calm her down.

Mara sniffled and pointed at the phone on the floor, starting to explain what had happened.

Ethan picked it up, carefully checked it over, but didn’t find anything strange. His brows knit together. “Are you sure you aren’t just seeing things?”

He was pretty sure Mara was still haunted by guilt over what happened to Faye, and maybe that stress was messing with her
