Gabriel tossed his phone down, clearly annoyed. “Violet attempted suicide. She’s in the hospital.”

“For real?” Lilah froze in shock.

Like, seriously? What was she trying to pull now? She messed up everything, and now she wanted to play the victim card?

“Forget about her. Where’s Aiden?”

Gabriel glanced past Lilah, not spotting their son, then casually asked, “Did we have visitors just now?”

“Yeah, Clara and Mr. Blackwell dropped by.”

Lilah, feeling a bit thirsty, went straight to the fridge, popped open a can, and took a sip.

After one gulp, she couldn’t help but ask, “Her parents called you? What’d they want? Trying to get you to visit her?”

“Yeah.”

Gabriel sat back down at his desk, eyes on his screen, tone ice-cold. “I’m not going.”

Since he already knew Violet was crossing the line, he wasn’t about to give her any room to keep dreaming.
