Lilah Hart smacked him lightly in frustration. “What kind of surprise is that? If you’d told me earlier, I could’ve actually looked forward to it.”

“Mommy, where are you going?” Aiden Wallace asked in his sweet baby voice.

“Just out for a bit. Since you’re both here now, let’s grab something to eat. The airplane food must’ve been awful.”

She patted Aiden’s soft little head, and the three of them headed out from the hotel together.

They chose a nice and cozy restaurant. She ordered a kids’ meal for Aiden, while she and Gabriel Wallace weren’t too hungry, so they just got some drinks.

Gabriel’s gaze never left Lilah. “You’ve lost a bit of weight these past couple of days, haven’t you?”

“Really? I didn’t notice,” Lilah said as she touched her own face. “If anything, I should stop gaining.”

Gabriel looked at her, clearly speechless.

He drank some water, then said, “These days people are obsessed with being thin—kind of messed up, honestly.
