Finn, on the other hand, was just all talk and no game. Within a few rounds, he was face-down on the table.

“You’ve got it, Clara.”

Lilah glanced at the passed-out Finn, a bit stunned it happened so fast. Then she turned and smiled at Clara.

Clara calmly wiped the corner of her lips with her slender, fair fingers. As she set her glass down, she still looked completely sober.

She’d been through way too many dark days growing up. Whenever she couldn’t deal with the pain, she’d drink to numb it. Over time, her tolerance just skyrocketed.

Ethan gave Finn’s slumped body a quick glance, then shifted his gaze nonchalantly to Clara. He spun his glass in his hand, his deep eyes shadowy and unreadable.

“So, Ethan and Clara—when’s the big wedding?”

Kai dropped that question casually while sipping his drink, probably just trying to stir things up out of boredom.
