She stood up, apologized and walked away, out of his sight, out of the restaurant, and out of his life forever.
Hot tears streamed down Landon's cheeks as he closed his eyes and covered his face with his palms, trying to will away the tears. The hope of his love had been in vain. He felt torn and trampled upon.
Minutes later, he signaled the waiter and slurred out, "A bottle of dark rum, please."
He drank until it was well past midnight, drowning his sorrow and pain with strong, throat stinging alcohol, dragging himself outside the bar, staggering with a bottle of dark rum, he stopped a cab and telling the driver his address.
He laid back in the seat, crying his heart out until they reached his destination. Landon couldn't help but feel envious of Alex, who had the courage to pursue Laurie.
