Chapter 106. Veil
Madison’s POV
With my face covered with a black, slightly transparent veil that allowed me to see, I navigated through the forest, following the direction those rogues from earlier had come from.
The forest was eerily quiet, safe for the occasional howl of wild beasts and the sounds of cricket.
My shoes barely make a sound on the earth, and I glanced around once in a while to make sure I was not being followed or watched.
Once I got exhausted, I took my time to rear under the trunk of a large tree, using its massive canopy as cover.
Since I was not on a steed, my journey was slower than normal. But by then, I had already walked quite far from the pack, and it would take a horse some hours to catch up.
When the first ray of dawn emerged from the sky, I finally sighted various tents on a large opening from up ahead. I didn’t know where I was, but seeing a habitable area after walking for so long made me feel relieved.
