Chapter 3
“Oh, uh, yes, of course!” Abigail stumbled over her words, completely surprised. It was already almost half-past seven, so she would need to hurry if she wanted to get there on time. “I’ll be there!”
“Good,” Jennifer answered, and the phone clicked as she made the call.
Abigail stared at her phone for a moment in disbelief. Then, she shouted to Miss Anita in the kitchen. “I’ve got a job interview. I need to go, please handle them.”
“That’s great!” Miss Anita called back. “Don’t worry, I’ve got this under control.”
“Sweethearts, Mommy will be home soon.” Abigail leaned down to kiss them both on their foreheads. “Stay with Miss Anita; I’ll be back before you know it.”
A few minutes later, Abigail came out fully dressed and prepared to head out. She bid her twins goodbye and headed out to the station for the interview.
Abigail is out of the gate seeking an automobile. Dropping her hand down to halt one, but those stopping are not going in their route.
After 10 minutes of waiting on the road, she soon observed a taxi headed her way.
She stated the place, and the car rode her on. During the ride, she was lost on thought and almost missed her destination.
“Wait! Stop here, let me alight,” Abigail said, coming to her senses.
“Ok, ma’am, the fare is $50,” the driver stated.
“Why will it be that much? I’m not paying more than $35 from there to here, you must be greedy,” Abigail accused the driver.
The driver had observed from her rush that she was going for a job interview. That’s why he wanted to charge more because he was in a hurry, and she wouldn’t care to pay the amount.
“That is the amount I charge, ma’am!” The driver shouted.
“I must be silly if I’m paying so much. Are you taking this or not? I’m in a hurry,” Abigail said.
The driver looked sorry, shook his head, and reluctantly accepted the money.
Abigail knocked on the gate about five times before the gatekeeper could hear that someone was outside.
“Good morning,” she greeted the gatekeeper.
“Morning.”
“I submitted my application weeks ago, and I got a call this morning from… Jennifer Moses? Yeah, Jennifer Moses.”
“Oh, Jennifer Moses, right,” the gatekeeper said.
“Yes-yes-yes.”
“Ok, let me call her to confirm, please,” he replied.
After the call, the gate guard agreed to let her through. “Ok, ma’am,” he shouted, “You can come in now.”
“Thank you so much,” Abigail responded.
Already stressed with her twins, cars, and the gate guy, she sweated like she had just finished baking bread.
“Good morning, ma’am,” she greeted the secretary.
The secretary asked, “Are you Miss Abigail James?”
“Yes, I am.”
“Walk inside, go through the door, then turn left. That’s the office,” the secretary stated.
In a happy mood after facing 20 rejections, she was finally contacted for interviews.
She started staring. “Wow, this building is like a gorgeous girl dancing in the hallway. I can’t wait to work here. Wow! There’s money in this firm.”
Admiring the structure and architecture, she knocked at the door.
“Come in,” Jennifer shouted.
“Good morning, ma’am,” Abigail greeted.
“Good morning, Miss Abigail James,” Jennifer replied with a soothing voice. “You may have your seat. Thank you for coming in for the interview.”
“Thank you for having me. I’m delighted to be here.”
“We’re pleased to have you. Let’s start with a few questions to get to know you better. Can you tell me about your experience in the industry?” Jennifer questioned.
“Certainly. I have five years of experience working as a marketing manager for a big tech company. I was responsible for establishing and executing marketing strategy, managing campaigns, and assessing market trends. I led a team of marketing specialists and coordinated with cross-functional teams to achieve business goals.”
“That sounds amazing. How do you remain informed with the latest industry trends and developments?” Jennifer asked.
“I believe in continuous learning and being informed about industry developments. I often attend conferences, webinars, and seminars relating to marketing and technology. I also read business magazines and follow thought leaders on social media to keep updated,” Abigail answered.
“Great to hear that. In this role, you’ll be working on many projects concurrently. Can you give me an example of how you prioritize tasks and manage your time effectively?” Jennifer asked.
“Prioritization and time management are key for success. I normally start by appraising the urgency and significance of each task, make a to-do list, and set deadlines to guarantee timely completion. I also use productivity tools and techniques like the Pomodoro Technique to keep concentration and enhance efficiency.” Abigail responded.
“Excellent approach. Our organization values cooperation and collaboration. Can you share a situation where you worked well as part of a team to accomplish a common goal?” Jennifer asked.
Abigail said, “Certainly. In my prior employment, we had a large product launch that needed tight coordination across marketing, sales, and product development teams. I actively engaged in cross-functional meetings, discussed ideas, and coordinated efforts to ensure a smooth and successful launch. We accomplished our objectives and got great comments from clients, which showed the effectiveness of our collaboration.”
“Collaboration is crucial indeed. Lastly, do you have any questions for us?” Jennifer asked.
“Yes, I do. Can you tell me more about the corporate culture and opportunities for professional progress within the organization?”
“Our organization offers a friendly and inclusive atmosphere that stimulates innovation and development. We offer opportunities for professional growth via training programs, mentoring initiatives, and challenging projects. We believe in nurturing internal talent and encouraging workers to attain their full potential,” Jennifer responded.
Abigail replied, “That sounds promising. Thank you for addressing my questions.”
“You’re welcome, Abigail. It was a pleasure chatting with you today. We’ll be in touch soon about the following stages in the employment process,” Jennifer said.
Abigail answered, “Thank you, Jennifer. I appreciate the opportunity. I look forward to hearing from you.”
“Take care, and have a great day!”
“You too. Goodbye!” Abigail replied.
