The bright and shimmering moonlight streamed through the hospital window, casting a dimly glow to the room, a perfect illustration to the situation at hand. The air smelled faintly of disinfectant, mingling with the quiet hum of machines nearby. Jason sat beside me, the weight of his presence both familiar and strange.
He reached into his pocket, pulling out a small velvet box. My breath caught as he opened it, revealing the earrings I had left at his place when I decided to stay with Charles—those delicate, silver, and shimmering in the light. I thought I would never get to see it again, and I could tell that this was his way of saying goodbye.
