Chapter 56

The young man’s heart was beating so hard that he wouldn’t be surprised if she could hear him from where she stood. He took another step closer, and then she suddenly yelled at the top of her voice.

“Come any closer to me, and I’m going to jump right off! Don’t dare me, Damien, I’m going to do it…” she said to him, shaking, moving closer to the edge. He had to drop to his knees when he saw that, raising his hands like somebody under arrest, signifying his surrender and promising that he wasn’t going to move a single inch closer to her, that he just wanted to talk.

If Damien had imagined a million different scenarios in which he would have reunited with his beloved Cassandra, then this was definitely not one of them by a long shot.

“Cassandra, please, let’s talk about this. Don’t do this. You know you don’t want to because you have so much to live for. So why would you waste it all? Is it because of that engagement thing, then…”
