Epilogue
Cassandra placed some daisies on her father’s grave. Today marked the three-year anniversary of his death. They never had a good relationship when he was alive, but now that he was gone, she didn’t see any point in holding onto resentment toward him.
“I wish you were here right now,” she said.
It was only after he died that she realized the vacuum she had in her life. Ever since she was a child, she never really had a father—just someone who failed terribly at the job, and she had to deal with him. But as soon as he died, it became so painfully and vividly clear to her.
She closed her eyes, recalling the last image she had of him when he was alive—the last memory they shared together, which was him threatening Damien and holding her tightly by her throat, so much so that she thought she was going to suffocate and die on the spot.
“I want you to strangle yourself to death right here in front of everybody and put an end to the Duntan legacy.”
