Chapter 3

Friday morning arrived, and Gilbert was feeling quite under the weather. He felt feverish as he got ready for work, but he had a major project that he was working on with Nelson, and he definitely couldn’t call in sick. He stumbled to the office and headed to his desk to resume his calculations and drafting. When it came to five o’clock, he was getting ready to go home and take a much-needed nap when Nelson ducked his head in through the doorway.

“I forgot to ask, Gilbert. Can you stay late today? We need to show the client those drawings early next week.”

“Oh. Can I come in tomorrow morning?” Gilbert asked, thinking of his plans with Clarke.

“I think it would be best if we finish them today,” Nelson said with finality.

“Alright,” Gilbert said sullenly as he took off his coat.

“Relax, Gilbert. I don’t want to stay back either. Look, I’ll go get us a nice dinner and bring it back to the office. Then, we’ll make it a working party.”
