Chapter 7
A week later, Gilbert was feeling flushed again. He struggled at work each day and tried to ignore the deepening sweats and brain fog he was experiencing. He didn’t see much of Nelson as he was away on a business trip for three days, and the work week was relaxing and quiet, which was what he needed with the feverish moods he suffered from. He was working at his desk on Friday when Nelson walked in through the door with his suitcase.
“How have things been while I’ve been gone?” he asked as he took off his jacket.
“Busy. I’ve just been researching library architecture for the next project.”
“Good boy,” Nelson said as he walked over to check Gilbert’s notes.
His nose wrinkled as he got closer.
“Your heat’s coming on soon,” he said.
“Oh no!” Gilbert replied. “I was hoping that wouldn’t happen again!”
“I’m afraid it’s a monthly cycle,” Nelson said. “I’m sending you home early for the day, straight to my apartment.”
