The room was in a pensive state, as though someone had died. I watched Martha take a deep breath and another sip of her alcohol.

I was eager to know what happened twenty years ago, just as I knew uncle Pete was too.

“I received a call from an anonymous number one day, asking me to come see them. I couldn't recognize the voice. I ended the call and went back to taking care of Jared who was sick at the time.”

She paused and took another swig of her glass.

“The number called again and threatened my husband's life if I didn't obey. By this time, you and Percy had traveled for a business trip.” She directed to uncle Pete.

“I tried to call his words bluff and ignore. I had no idea how he knew but he explained where I lived and how he could drive in and take my sons away, I became scared. I dialed Percy's phone, it didn't connect, yours too. I was about to call the police when the call came in again and told me not to involve the pol
