“Why is he not back yet?” I paced the living room, my mother-in-law’s eyes following me.

“Try calling him again,” she suggested.

She was worried — I heard it in her voice. It had been anger at first, but I guessed anger had morphed into worry. As for me, it was still anger. I knew he was with that bitch.

“I have called him a million times and he’s not picking. What is wrong with him?!” I cussed, anger squeezing my insides. “That stupid Hailey!”
She was always getting in my business. That bitch! I’d not forgotten how she’d had me arrested. She would pay for doing that to me. For now, I needed my husband back home with me.
