“If anything should happen to Hailey or these children, I’ll kill her,” I heard Peter say, his tone filled with anger.

I turned to find him staring at Christian, who did not look the least intimidated.

“Peter, don’t,” I warned carefully. The two men were too unpredictable around each other.

Christian stepped forward slightly, his voice calm. “I’m not your enemy. I came because Catherine reached out to me, and I wanted to understand what was happening.”

Peter scoffed. “You had no business coming here.”

“Really? Because from what I see, Hailey needed help. Your ex-wife kidnapped her children, and you’re here posturing instead of solving the problem.”

“Christian, please,” I whispered, but he ignored me.

Peter moved closer to him. “You disap
