“Shimma! Can I speak to you for a second?” I heard my dad say. I turned back to Mr. Mattias.

“You need to leave,” I said. He frowned.

“Why? You can ignore him. I just want us to talk right now,” he said, his voice barely above a whisper.

“I can’t ignore him. I mean, I forgot to lock the door, and he could come inside any moment now,” I said, panicking.

“Shimma, I am coming in,” my father said as I heard my door gently open.
