Chapter 16. Happy Moments

Waking up, he isn’t in the bed and the house is silent. Rolling over, I fall back to sleep, not even considering looking at the time.

The feel of someone stroking my face wakes me. Opening my eyes, Jackson is sitting looking at me.

“Afternoon, babes.”

Smiling, I wrap my arms around his neck, pulling him to me and gently kissing his lips. “Wait, afternoon?” I look at him. Is that a joke? Is it really the afternoon?

“Yes, it is nearly two o’clock. I kept coming up to see if you were awake, but you weren’t so I just let you sleep. Don’t worry, the girls are happy downstairs playing with Max.” Sitting up quickly, I can’t believe I slept so long.

“I feel awful, I should have been up and spending time with them both. You should have woken me up.” It wasn’t his fault, not at all, yet I can’t help but feel awful for sleeping all day.
